We absolutely adore this job. There’s something very special about working alongside the person we love while documenting two people in love on the first day of their life as a married couple. There’s absolutely nothing like it. Kimmy & Ben’s Milwaukee wedding at the Pfister was an absolutely perfect day, and a shining example of why we love doing what we do. We got to witness all their special moments, big and small. We laughed and we cried, and at the end of the night, we left with our hearts absolutely full. The one word that kept coming up all throughout the day was “sweet”, and I think you’ll understand why.
Kimmy & Ben chose not to see each other on their wedding day until she walked down the aisle, but they did do a first touch and wrote each other letters. We always feel so much emotion during these moments, when the bride and groom read their sweet messages to one another, unable to see each other but holding hands and feeling each other’s presence and love. Kimmy and Ben had their first touch near one of the Pfister’s classic, ornate staircases, holding hands on opposite sides of the railing. It’s amazing how a hand hold can ground you, especially on the biggest day of your life.
Although there was no “first look” between Kimmy and her groom, she did have first looks with both her father and her step-father. She approached each of them separately in the beautiful ballroom where both their ceremony and reception were to take place. Her step-father Adam turned around and immediately teared up, while her father Mike had a huge smile on his face the whole time. Afterwards, we overheard Adam and Mike reminiscing about how in that moment, Kimmy’s whole life flashed before their eyes, and they could see back to their little girl riding her bike. It was so sweet to witness. We absolutely adore this job.
After the ceremony, we walked across the street to the Milwaukee Federal Building & US Courthouse to take photos using the classic, clean architecture. It’s one of our favorite places to photograph in downtown Milwaukee. Kimmy was the most stunning, radiant bride and Ben was her handsome groom. You can always feel the love between a couple on their wedding day while photographing them in the moments leading up to or following “I do”. Cars honked their horns for the couple, and they even had some jets do a flyover to celebrate! (Jk, there was an airshow in town that weekend) During the photos of the wedding party, Kimmy commented on the huge smiles on our faces. We just couldn’t help it. We absolutely adore this job.
Kimmy’s father is a man of few words, or so we were told, so her mom gave a welcome speech at the beginning of the reception. Let me tell you, this was the most amazing welcome speech we have heard in our eight years of photographing weddings. She had the room roaring with laughter and also had a lot of us in tears. She spoke about how everyone used to comment to her how “sweet” her Kimmy was. It was very, very apparent how special her daughter is to her, and it really hit us in the feels imagining giving a welcome speech at our boys’ weddings someday. We absolutely adore this job.
The night wrapped up with North Coast Orchestra performing on stage and filling the dance floor. We absolutely love live music, so when there’s live music at a wedding we’re photographing it’s an absolute treat. They were AMAZING! Like seriously amazing! We actually didn’t even want to leave when our night came to a close. Kimmy & Ben, you two are the sweetest, and you threw a heck of a party! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for letting us play a small part in telling your story. We absolutely adore you two!
